1/19 Pinewood Derby Car Cut-out Event

posted Jan 18, 2009, 6:25 PM by Webmaster Queen Anne Cub Scouts

Reminder:  This Monday evening, January 19, we will be gathering in the Fellowship Hall at the Queen Anne United Methodist Church where we will have scroll saws available for the boys to cut-out the main shapes of their Pinewood Derby cars.  Boys should come prepared with their designs in-hand for cut-out.  To hopefully move things along, we will use the following schedule.  However, if you are unable to attend your den’s time slot, feel free to come at any time that is the most convenient for you.

Tigers:  7:00 P.M.

Wolves:  7:15 P.M.

Bears:  7:30 P.M.

Webelos 1 and 2:  7:45 P.M.

For those scouts unable to attend the last Pack meeting, your car kit is with your Den Leader.

For those scouts who have built a derby car before, please bring one or more of your prior cars to have on display for others to see as examples.

Cars for any interested adults and/or siblings, are also available.  Cost is $4.00 per car and due upon receipt (the cost for each Scout car is included in their annual dues).  Please contact 1st Year Webelos parent, John Burreson (Burreson.Family@gmail.com) if you want a car and are not able to be there on Monday.

PLEASE NOTE:  Given the size of our Pack and the potential for sawdust clean-up overload, we will only going to be cutting out the cars and leaving the sanding and finishing work for home and/or den meetings.

If you have any questions, please contact Jim Grane at 206/282-6861 or granefamily@comcast.net.

The Pinewood Derby racing event will be Saturday, March 7, with the official check-in of cars Friday evening, March 6.  Design awards will be given to all cars, with medals to the top three designs and a traveling trophy to the top design.  Similarly, awards will be given to the top speed finishers in the dens and the Pack, with a traveling trophy to the fastest car.  More information to follow in the coming weeks!
