2008 Raingutter Regatta Event -- November 17!

posted Nov 19, 2008, 9:39 PM by Webmaster Queen Anne Cub Scouts

Dear Pack 70/72 Scouts and Families,

Once again it
s time for our annual Raingutter Regatta!   We can’t wait to see the fleet of boats your boys have created.

The racing event will be held Monday, November 17 at the QA United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall (1606 5th Ave W.).

Please read the following details as things have changed a bit this year to manage our growing Pack size

First and foremost, please Sharpie your name and Den onto the bottom of your boat. This will help with lost or misplaced boats, and help our judges identify boats.

Best design judging:  Sunday night, 11/16, at QA United Methodist Church from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m.   If you would like your boat to be part of the Pack design award competition, please plan on bringing it to the church Fellowship Hall during this time, or arrange with your Den Leader to get your boat there if you can't make it.   Judging will take place after drop-off and boats will then be held until the Regatta the following evening.  Design awards will be presented on Monday at the racing event for those boats delivered on Sunday.

Monday night Racing Schedule:

Tigers:   6:30 to 7:00 p.m.   The Tigers will be randomly divided into smaller groups for racing.   The winning group will receive an award.  The Tigers are then encouraged to stay and watch the other dens race but are also free to leave earlier based on their regular meeting schedule.  Older dens should plan to arrive early to watch these new scouts go head to head in their heats!!

Wolves, Bears and Webelos I:  7:00 to 7:30 p.mWolves will be randomly divided into two groups.  Awards will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place groups. The Bear den will be defending their 1st place title from last year and the competition should be tight.

Dragons:  7:30 to 8:00 p.m.  Dragons will race "open class" boats (not made from kits) and an award will be given to the top finisher.  These races will be timed and should be very exciting.

Remember:  To be eligible for the design competition we need your boat Sunday night at the prescribed time.  Boats not turned in during that time will not be eligible for the best design competition.  All scouts in all dens are eligible for design awards.  Best Design Award Medals will be given to the top three designs in the entire Pack and one medal will be awarded to the best Dragon boat!

In addition to racing:  There will be two practice lanes set up so scouts can get a knack for the technique and to get to know their boats before their race. Please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of your racing time if you would like to practice with your boat in the practice gutters.  These extra gutters may also occupy scouts who are not currently racing.   We hope to have some other boating activities available to the scouts as well.

Other Awards:  All attendees will receive a regatta segment.  Design award ribbons and “best of show” awards will be available for all scouts who submit their boat on Sunday.

The Bear Den is hosting the Regatta this year, and we ask all scouts to have fun and remember to
"Do Your Best”.
