The Pack 7072 Pinewood Derby is scheduled for Saturday morning, January 30. For those of you new to scouts this year, the boys build their pinewood derby car from the kit, and then race it, down a 20 yard track on Pinewood Derby day.
If you did not get a Pinewood Derby Car Kit from Santa, we will have kits at upcoming den meetings. The first den meetings of the new year, 2016, will be on Monday January 4. If you want a kit sooner, please email me and I can get you one. I'll also have some available to hand out at Squid Jigging for Bears and Webelos.
This year we’re having an “Invite-a-friend Derby”. Your sons are encouraged to invite a friend. See below for details.
We also need VOLUNTEERS to make it all happen. Contact me, please, if you'd like to help.

Monday, Jan. 18: 6:30 - 8:00 pm Car Cut-out. Boy Scout Troop 72 will run jig-saws at the Presbyterian Church so the boys can do first rough cut-outs of their cars. Boys should research car designs on the internet, or wherever, and draw on their cars with a pencil to let the Boy Scouts know where you want your car cut.
Monday, Jan. 25: While most of the work on the cars is generally done at home, many dens will have den meetings where boys can work on their cars. Check with your den leaders on details.
Friday, Jan. 29 6:00-8:00 pm Car Weigh-in and check-in. We'll have the track all set up so the boys can make sure their cars run smoothly. We'll have scales so the boys can make sure their cars are close to, but under, the weight limit. We'll have some equipment to help the boys put the finishing touches on their cars. Boys will leave their cars overnight.
Saturday Jan. 30 10:00-1:00 Pinewood Derby Race Day, (Races will be run and organized by Boy Scout Troop 70) Races will be held, first, by den, followed by the finals.
We'll have prizes for BOTH Speed and Creativity.
Siblings are encouraged to participate, and can have a kit if they'd like one.
ALSO - We are encouraging all the boys to INVITE A FRIEND. Guests can come and watch and have fun, OR, guests can also participate. They can race, if they’d like to. We have a siblings' race. We will also have a guests' race. Once your boy invites a friend, we can work with you to help get the guest a car kit to race with. A. Your boy can lend the guest a car from a past year, B. If you don’t have an extra car, let us know and we’ll try to get you one, or, C. If your guest wants to do all the work and create their own car – were happy to get them a kit.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
