Please read this carefully since the requirements are near the end. Cub Scout and Boy Scout Program & Training Conference is coming up on Saturday, October 17th and will be held at the North Seattle Community College across I-5 from the Northgate Mall. This one stop adult leadership training event for all scouting parents and Cub Scout leaders is less than 3 away. There are more than 70 different training sessions being offered and they cover the complete spectrum of subjects: · Den Leadership · Pack Leadership · Kayaking and Canoeing · Cooking and Back Country Menus · Fly Fishing · Scout Entertainment · Etc. So there is serious stuff, as well as, lots of fun stuff. We all want the kids to have a great experience with scouting so they keep coming back and learning some important life skills. I also believe that as parents we all want to have great experiences with scouting. And I believe that one of the best ways to achieve that is to have as many parents trained in scouting as possible. I think it’s important for all of our parents to understand what scouting is all about, how the den meetings and pack meetings are run, and to learn about some of the great activities we can do with our kids, and how to do them safely. And operating under the theory that many hands make light work, it’s a great way for the adults to learn how to make a contribution to the success of your child, the den, and the pack. No matter what level of commitment you are willing to make, whether it’s being a den leader and being involved with the kids and parents every week, or simply helping to plan and organize one event per year such as a hike, bike ride or Mariners game, we all benefit from having trained adult leaders. Please ask all of the parents in your Den to consider attending the PTC. The cost of training is $30 per person. The Pack has agreed to pay for any adult leader who would like to attend. Our Pack leadership is committed to having trained adult leaders so that the kids and the parents have a great experience with scouting. Our Pack leadership will pay the cost of training for any parent who would like to attend. This is a terrific opportunity for the adults to learn more about scouting and the cool stuff we can do with our kids and to learn about how we can create great experiences for our kids. The PTC brochure does a good job of explaining the requirements for adult leaders to earn their “Trained” badges. Before PTC within the next 2.5 weeks there are 3 on-line classes that take about 2.5 hours. 1. Fast Start Leader Training – on-line E-Learning http://myscouting.scouting.org/
