Pack Nature Hike -- Discovery Park

Who:  All Queen Anne Cub Scouts, their family and friends What:  Nature Hike – our next-to-the-last Pack summertime event J L When:  Thursday, August 27 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Where:  Discovery Park.  Meet in the North Parking lot near the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center (3801 W Government Way) What to Bring (ideas):  Water(!), light trail snacks, first aid kit, compass, flashlight, walking stick, whistle, pedometer, fun trail songs (think 10 essentials) What to Wear:  Pack t-shirts and appropriate coats/clothing for weather (rain or shine), hat, sturdy shoes (avoid open toes)  Adult Volunteers:  Our adult volunteer for this Pack event is Garrett Baserman.  He will meet you in the North Parking Lot at Discovery Park.  We are also hoping that a few local Boy Scouts will join us and help lead our cubs along the trail!   Achievement Opportunities:  Come “prepared” to teach the other scouts a trail song (I’ve Got That Cub Scout Spirit, etc.), review the requirements for the Conservation and Leave No Trace awards in your scout’s handbook and prepare to practice the requirements while on the hike.  There may also be the opportunity to work on the Map and Compass belt loop.  Please note:  We will be hiking the loop trail which is about a three-mile trek.  If you feel you have children who may not be able to make it this far, please let the volunteers know at the start of the hike and there may be a secondary hiking group that hikes the loop in the opposite direction to intersect with the more advanced hikers in the Pack.  Directions (see yellow label in NW corner of park):  http://www.seattle.gov//parks/environment/trails/images/discoverypark.pdf   We’ll look forward to seeing you for this fun, summertime Queen Anne Cub Scout outing!
