Monday, January 18 (no school):

Pack meeting at Queen Anne United Methodist Church

Pinewood Derby Car Cutout and Blue and Gold Banquet ticket purchase (Please bring cash or checkbooks)

We will be gathering in the Fellowship Hall where we will have scroll saws available for the boys to cut-out the main shapes of their Pinewood Derby cars.  Boys should come prepared with their designs in-hand for cutout.  To move things along, we will use the following schedule:

§  Tigers:  6:30 P.M.

§  Wolves:  6:45 P.M.

§  Bears:  7:00 P.M.

§  Webelos 1:  7:30 P.M.

Siblings, parents and Den Chiefs can cut-out their cars with their scout. However, if you are unable to attend your den’s time slot, feel free to come at any time that is the most convenient for you.  (Given the size of our Pack and the potential for sawdust clean-up overload, we will only going to be cutting out the cars and leaving the finishing work for home and/or den meetings.)

You can use the links below for design ideas, creation and submission rules and race rules.

The blank “blocks” on this sheet are the actual size (side profile) of the wood blocks that are contained in the Derby car kit.  You can use this sheet to layout car designs which can then be cut-out and used for transferring to the block of wood.  Important considerations to keep in mind: given that the cars move side-to-side in lane guides, cars that have a sharp point may not trigger the sensor right away.  Try to keep the width of the front of the car to at least ¾” or so. Also, the wheelbase MUST remain 4-3/8” – you can move the axles but the distance must remain the same as the original block. See the rules for more details.

Cars for any interested adults and/or siblings will be available at the January 11 den meetings and the pack cut-out event meeting.  Cost is $4.00 per car and due upon receipt (the cost for each Scout car is included in their annual dues).  Please contact me at marksarbach@comcast.net if you want a car and are not able to attend the event.

The Pinewood Derby event will be Saturday, February 27, with the official check-in of cars Friday evening, February 26 at Bethany.  Design awards will be given to all cars, with medals to the top three designs and a traveling trophy to the top design. Similarly, awards will be given to the top speed finishers in the dens and the Pack, with a traveling trophy to the fastest car.  More information to follow in the coming weeks!

We will also have a Blue and Gold Banquet tickets for sale at $5 each.  (See February 8th below.)
